Rising through the ranks in Ring of Combat is no easy task but Richmond’s Tevin Cooke (5-1-0) has manage to do just that. Currently riding a three fight win streak, Cooke is now on the cusp of winning ROC gold which can always to lead to bigger things.
Cooke takes on current ROC featherweight champion, Bill Algeo (9-3-0). With the exception of game plans, Cooke approaches like he does all his fights. “This being a title fight, my training is to be honest no different than usual,” said said Cooke. “Of course I have different gameplans for every fight but this is just like any other fight for me [and] I’m going step in the cage and perform like I always do,” he continued.
Growing up in Northern Virginia, Cooke now calls Richmond his home where he is a product of MMA Institute. “ [I] grew up wrestling and loved everything about it, I just got burnt out when I got to college and wanted something new. From there I moved to Richmond and started training while I went to school at Virginia Commonwealth University.
With Tevin’s dad as his manager and mental coach and backed by the combat duo of Rick McCoy and Brian Nelson, he knows what’s on stake when he meets Algeo at ROC 62. Many former ROC champs have been called up by the UFC and Cooke sees this as a tremendous opportunity.
“Hell yea it crosses my mind that a lot of ROC title holders get picked up by the UFC,” said Cooke. “It’s about the only thing I can think about it. I can’t wait to win this belt [and] defend it,” he finished.
